Next Step #01

SO WHAT'S THE NEXT STEP?

I THINK THIS COULD HELP - WHAT DO WE DO NOW?

Firstly, it's important that there is an agreement between parent and teenager for the young person to give coaching a go. I do not coach conscripts! And let's also be clear about what coaching is not...

Coaching is not:

  • Counselling
  • Remedial
  • 'Fixing' somebody
  • A long-term process

    Step One
On that basis, the next step is to have an initial telephone conversation to allow you to ask questions, clarify for yourself whether coaching would be useful in your situation and get a sense of me and my approach. I will be delighted to talk through any concerns and hopes with you. There is no charge for this initial telephone consultation.

    Step Two
If you decide you want to go ahead, we then agree an initial coaching session. Typically this lasts for one and a half hours. Sometimes this one session alone is sufficient for the teenager to achieve a breakthrough, and we're done.

    Step Three
Usually, we would agree to several further sessions, either weekly or fortnightly. A maximum of six sessions is usually sufficient to support the teenager to make the changes they want.

    Further Options
Sometimes it's a good idea to have a facilitated session for parent(s) and teenager to agree ground rules for the future.

And sometimes it can be helpful to continue with occasional coaching to keep on track - particularly for young people who are still building up their confidence and feel they benefit from on-going support. However, it's important to note that I do not encourage any sort of dependency and gently push my clients towards self-sufficiency just as quickly as they are ready.

To take the first step and discuss your situation to see if you think I can help, please either call or email me at ruth@ruthparis.com for an initial free and informal telephone conversation. Often people find that just this first discussion is helpful.

I look forward to hearing from you when you feel the time is right.

With very best wishes in the meantime,

    Ruth
